Wedding day diamonds are every girl’s dream and a diamond wedding ring is the most classic choice. When shopping for diamond wedding rings, it is good to know something about diamonds. Diamonds are the most valuable and highly priced gemstones and their quality is determined by using the so-called “4 C’s” : cut, carat, color and clarity.

Most people know that carat means the diamond’s weight, but a good cut can affect a diamond’s value as much as the carat. The higher the carat, the larger and heavier the diamond is and the more expensive it will be for the buyer.

A 1 carat diamond ring or 2 carat diamond ring is always more valuable than a ring with two or more very small, less than 1 carat diamonds. If you’re on a tight budget, consider a ring with a diamond that is just under 1 carat. It is less expensive than a 1 ct ring, but most people, if they are not experts, will not be able to tell the difference.

Another way to get a stunning diamond ring with less money is to invest in a marquise cut diamond. Marquise cut diamonds are usually cheaper but this unique cut makes them look bigger than they really are.

The cut means the proportions of the diamond: how its different facets look in proportion to each other and how symmetrical it is. A good cut makes the diamond sparkle as it attracts and reflects light. If a diamond is cut too deep, it may look like parts of the stone are darker than others, and if a diamond is cut too shallow, it looks lifeless.

The clarity (how flawless the stone is inside and outside) is important too, and the last "C" is the color. Although diamonds may seem colorless, they come in a variety of shades and tones, from pink to pale blue and yellow to brown. Knowing the four C’s can help you when shopping for the perfect diamond wedding ring.
